Summer 2010 Youth Water Polo Programs
American River Water Polo Club's Youth Programs are for boys and girls ages 5 to 13 (not yet in high school)...from beginners to experienced water polo players and everything in between. ARWPC offers programs in Land Park, Arden/Arcade and Orangevale and we feel like this is the best way to introduce kids to the great sport of water polo.
New athletes are encouraged to attend one of the Free Introductory Clinics to get a feel for water polo; returning players are welcome to attend the Clinics as well (try to bring a friend). These low pressure clinics are structured to introduce kids to what water polo is all about and helps parents know whether their kids will enjoy a full session of water polo before signing up.
Our Summer Youth League is designed for beginners to intermediate players, participants will practice and play games within the following groups: Noodle Ball ages 5-7; Micro Polo ages 8-10; and Youth Polo ages 11 and up. Offered in Land Park, Arden/Arcade and Orangevale. Practices are held twice weekly with three "game days" providing a tournament-like environment while playing realistic, yet friendly water polo games.
Experienced players are encouraged to play on the Competitive Youth teams. Tryouts were held late March, but players that have the required experienced and/or ability may be added throughout the summer on a space available basis with coach approval. If you are interested, please contact us at
.
Incoming 9th graders (regardless of age) are encouraged to play in the Summer High School Program as it is a better preparation for high school water polo and the athletes are more alike in age and maturity than the Youth Programs.
All participants must be good swimmers (able to swim 25 yards if under 7 years old and 50 yards for ages 8 and up). This does not mean that participants must be expert swimmers by any means - if you have doubts, try a free clinic or simply sign up and use the first couple of practices as a tryout to see if your child is comfortable in the water.
This Summer, we are offering our Youth Programs at three sites: McClatchy HS, Rio Americano HS and Bella Vista HS. Each site will practice two weekdays a week for six weeks, with 3-4 Game Days scheduled on Fridays, June 25, July 9 and July 23 in the late afternoon in which all sites get together to play games.
